【Subdivided Flat Platform | Press conference】
In view of the situation of the spreading Corona Virus Disease?, we attended the press conference held by the Subdivided Flat Platform, problems and threats brought by the drainage design in subdivided houses were discussed?.
?? In order to preclude sewage, tackles such as waste pipes, anti-siphonage pipe and exhaust duct were usually allocated in buildings. A U-shaped trap would also be installed to avoid bringing the virus into houses. Yet, most of the subdivided houses lack the above functions?♂️.
?? Usually, residents of subdivided houses would use a sewer pipe and exhaust duct collectively, which may create the problem of overload?. Worse still, some residents of subdivided houses could not install a U-shaped trap due to the inadequate raised floor. Under this circumstance, viruses are hard to avoid and may even be brought to the houses, the risk of spreading disease gradually intensified?.
?? If residents in the subdivided houses were infected, the disease may be spread not only through the premises above or below (e.g. the current cases in Cheung Hong Estate, Tsing Yi and the Amoy Gardens during SARS), but also the premises in the same floor).
?? According to the existing policies of Buildings Department, development of subdivided housed shall be monitored by the Minor Works Control System. Yet, professionals were not hired in most of the current construction of subdivided houses. Inspection and execution of policy were not launched by the Buildings Department as well. A large amount of illegal and substandard subdivided houses thus appeared. Under this circumstance, the safety of residents could not be ensured under the epidemic?.
Thus, we urged the government to focus on the needs of subdivided houses’ residents. It is hoped that the Buildings Department could strengthen the enforcement on subdivided houses, in order to protect the residents and eventually develop adequate housing.
